A helicopter trip to the Valley of Geysers and to the Uzon volcano

Tour operates: July 1 – September 15
Duration 6 hours
From:
Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky
Cost EURO for 1 person.

The world-known Valley of geysers is located in the heart of the Kronozky national park in a deep mountain canyon. This unique natural object was discovered in 1941 by the geologist T. I. Ustinova. The Valley was named so after the 40 geysers and the numerous hot springs, flowing into the river over the distance of 8 kilometers. Each of the geysers is unique. All of them have their names and characteristic features. In the Valley of geysers one can observe every known kind of natural hydrothermal processes: hot lakes, pulsating boiling springs, steam and gas streams, mud pots and geysers.

The route of the helicopter trip to the Valley of Geysers goes over the picturesque mountain chains and valleys, over tundra, volcanoes, rivers and lakes; the tourists can observe an eruption of the Karymsky volcano and enjoy the beauty of the turquoise lake lying in the Maliy Semyachik volcano.

The person who comes to the Valley of Geysers for the first time, is shocked with the unreality of the things he sees. The world of the valley is so fantastic that it seems as though nothing of the kind can exist on the Earth and that all of this is happening on some far away planet. The colors are totally alien to the landscapes of the Earth: in the background of bright green of the mountain pine and the foliage of the leaves – brown, red, violet, burnt clay ground. The air is saturated with sulphur vapors and smell to the limit.

Everything around is boiling, hissing and bubbling!

In the Valley of Geysers the guide will explain the rules of behavior on the territory of the national park to the guests. The tour goes on along the wooden decking of the paths to the main observation points. The path on the more steep parts of the slopes is equipped with railings. From the observation points the visitorts can see and photograph all stages of eruption of the biggest geysers (Velikan, Sakharny and others), look into the “Gates to hell”, enjoy the view of the pots with boiling red clay.
After the 2-hour tour down the Valley there is a flight to the caldera of the Uzon volcano.

Another unique place in the Kronozky national part, the caldera of the Uzon volcano is a great bowl-shaped basin, 9 by 12 km in zise, which formed in place of the destroyed volcano 40 thousand years ago.

Uzon amazes the visitors with its riches and the kinds of volcanic processes one can see here: there are over a thousand of thermal springs of different size, form and composition here, including hot lakes and boiling pots.

The total area of thermal fields is about 61 thousand square km.

Unlike the Valley of Geysers, the caldera of the Uzon volcano with the numerous hot springs and fumaroles had been known to the locals a long time ago. This unique natural phenomena was known among the kamchatka dwellers as the “boiling valley”, “ the land of steam”. There is a great number of warm and non-freezing lakes here. The biggest of them are the warm, non-freezing Fumarolnoe lake and the cold Zentralnoe lake, as well as the maar-lake Dalnee, which is quite a sight.

As a result of a landslide on the 03.06.2007 there are now new landscape features in the valley: a barrier lake, a great number of rocks and stones.

The flight to the beginning of the tour begins from the Avachinsky airport (from the city of Elizovo), which is located in 30 km from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatksy.

The transfer to the airport and back must be paid for separately.
